All you need to know about Anxiety, Stress and Depression

Anxiety:

Trying a new task, getting a job, Social behaviour, Speaking in public, Consciousness about people thought of you, tests, problems in a relationship, taking decisions or any other common factors that lead you to fear or worry called anxiety. This anxiety is expected and also gives you focus and improves your performance. Most of us didn’t know, but that extreme will interrupt your life and take you to risk. That extreme is called anxiety disorder.

What causes anxiety? 

The real reason is not well studied. For anxiety, it can be genetic, environmental, personal, or behaviour, whereas for anxiety disorder, people under prolonged stressful conditions, having severe health issues, depressed, or more often anxious about something are prone to have an anxiety disorder.

 

Symptoms: 

Emotionally you have fear for everything, unreasonable depression, negative thoughts, control of worrying or anger, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Phobias; they are more prone to have related mental disorders and suicidal thoughts.

Physically you feel restless or tired, increased heart rate, nausea, trembling, shortness of breath, ache in head and body, thyroid problems and diabetes. 

Chronic medication or drugs causes anxiety as a side effect.

Anxiety disorder is more complicated than insomnia, food habits and depression. Often leads people to be less productive, not active, affecting personal life, progression, hopelessness and helplessness, and finally, failure in life.

 

Different types of anxiety:

Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD):

It is a common anxiety disorder worrying about everything in day to day life. This anxiety is a disorder that affects our daily life, and it is caused by genetics, brain chemistry, stress that will be out of control. GAD can be treatable psychologically, with medication or lifestyle changes.

 

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD):

OCD is an obsession with unrequited things that your mind reminds you this is the compulsive work to do. It will create anxiety for the person who has OCD. OCD people are afraid of imperfection and have unwanted thoughts.

 

Panic attacks and panic disorder:

No one bothers about that thing except the panic attacked person in panic attacks. People feel harmful or dangerous incidents happen to them, but that incident is not considered hazardous. It makes that person frightened and have health problems, even leading to death. People with panic attacks may experience the repetitive fear of panic attacks even in a safe environment. It is necessary to see a doctor and take care of the panic attack and disorder that can lead you to death. 

 

Social anxiety disorder:

Social anxiety disorder is a tendency to have dread in social situations. When people face various instances like public speaking, attending interviews, presentations, writing in front of others, or even eating in front of others, they feel uncomfortable and fear and afraid of people’s opinions about them. People with this disorder always have self-consciousness and fear everyday social events. It is mandatory to see a therapist to treat this disorder. Otherwise, it will affect your quality of social life.

 

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD):

When trauma hits a person severely, it is called post-traumatic stress disorder. That trauma can be anything like accidents, murder, harassment, and abuse that usually causes severe symptoms and can’t lead their lives. The symptoms are repetitive memories of trauma that causes them to unbalance their peace, having stress or extreme levels of anger or worry when they are reminded of the trauma, less concentration about present life, mislead their mind to the negative thoughts, a nightmare about that trauma. Trauma always won’t lead to PTSD, and it depends on the person’s ability to handle the terrific event. It is a serious problem. You should see a doctor or therapist to get out of it.

 

Phobias:

Phobia is fear of common objects, animals, humans, or situations. For example, some people fear height, water, snakes, confined space, medical procedures, injection, excessive noise and spiders. People with phobia tend to experience mixed emotions and cause stress. You cannot do anything you enjoy when you are concerned about a phobia.

 

Treatment:

  • Some medication and treatment are available for the anxiety mentioned above disorder and anxiety-related disorder. 
  • Psychotherapy is used for the anxiety mentioned above. This type teaches you how to behave and balance the mentality.
  • Medications are available to reduce the symptoms of anxiety disorder. Mostly they are antidepressants and sedatives. You only take this with a doctor prescription, and also it differs for the comorbidity patients.

 

Stress:

These emotional things are not meant to be defined because they can’t be measured, depending on our mental health.

The physical definition of stress is that it is pressure or tension exerted on a material. Likewise, the stress related to our mind can be defined as strain or anxiety caused by pressurised mental conditions. The stress won’t happen suddenly; it blows up like a balloon, thinking problems one after another, causing pressure and when it exceeds the limit to hold the air and so the mental stability.

 

How can we overcome stress?

Even though there is no specific medication for stress, the symptoms can be controlled with the aid of sedatives, popularly known as tranquillizers and antidepressants and beta-blockers.

What the sedatives do is that they de-escalate the activity of the Central nervous system and hence shows the effects of slow breathing followed by relaxation and reduced tension. Relaxing is one of the common ways to get rid of stress conditions. Relaxing in ways like distracting yourself with desired things or making social contact if you are not shy. Overstressed conditions can affect our bodies in various ways. The urge to do whatever your brain stimulates is very harmful to people around you.

Stresses are classified as Environmental, postural, emotional, dental and nutritional. The most common are emotional, nutritional and environmental stresses.

 

Emotional stress:

The most critical stress that many people go through is emotional stress. “Becoming aware of the adverse effects that emotional stress has on our health is a motivator to take control over how we react.” is the way to overcome this type of stress.

 

Nutritional stress:

The adverse effects of stress can be undone by taking healthy foods. The correct nutrition makes a balanced blood sugar level and hormones. Apart from obesity, illness and tooth decay, high blood pressure due to poor nutrition causes anxiety, lack of concentration and less social skills.

 

Environmental stress:

This stress is common among many people, and at least everyone may have gone through this stress. The environmental factors force us to react to it, and at first, only a few people will make it smooth. The elements are places like work, abroad or places where crime happens. This thing can be avoided by choosing and planning places to explore.

 

Depression:

Depression is a mental illness that affects people severely without knowing its severity. People have gone through terrific events like the loss of loved ones, unsuccessful in the profession, relationship breakup, or anything that can’t handle by people at that time. That sadness and grievance affect the person awfully. Depression causes many difficulties like insomnia, lack of confidence, feeling down, low self-esteem, inactivity, loss of interest you used to enjoy, loss of appetite, increased stress and anxiety for everything, weight loss or gain, major health issues, or death. Depressed people can’t cope with the emotions and tend to have suicidal thoughts. Sad/grievance is different from depression. Sadness and grievance depend on the event and have a time limit while depression lasts. It is mandatory to treat depression. 

 

Causes:

  • It can be triggered from the undesired events
  • Health illness or chronic or fatal disease causes depression in people
  • It also depends on genetic, environmental, brain chemistry or specific biochemical reactions.

Treatment:

Antidepressants are the medications used for these conditions. They target the neurotransmitters which are involved in regulating mood. 

The common antidepressants are:

  • Citalopram (Celexa)
  • Escitalopram (Lexapro)
  • Fluoxetine (Prozac)
  • Fluvoxamine (Luvox)

Unless you take other medicines, these medications should be taken. Psychiatrists and Psychologists are the persons you have to reach if the problem or condition is a sharable one. They can give medicines based on your activity. The awareness about the effects like grey hair, hair fall, imbalance blood pressure or jerking also helps better you.

Believing in you: this is what we are ignoring unknowingly. If you believe in yourself, you focus on your goal and succeed. If you do not believe in yourself, then no one does that also you will lose your success.

Focus on your field: Everyone has their goal in life. The only focus will bring Consciousness about our goal and potential to do that goal. I believe focus is the primary quality to get success in our career.

Consistent with your passion: you make anything happen with your consistency. Being consistent in your goal helps you to forget about your worries.

Taking enough rest: give your mind and body to get some rest.

Developing skills and confidence: learning about something that you love and get skilled in that makes you feel more powerful and confident.

Explore: Try to explore Yourself to something new that will give you the pleasure . Avoiding alcohol and smoke: It is the best thing to help prevent the above condition or at least try to do it minimally that also helps you. 

Try to forget about your past: Remembering the awful past is the worst thing. It is okay to have something terrible that everyone went through. So try to speak out with the person to make you feel comfortable and spend time with family and friends. Following the qualities mentioned above will help you get rid of that trauma. 

Also, avoid anger, take care of health and avoid too much caffeine to treat the problems. Stay positive and stay happy and healthy.
